NaNoWriMo Vancouver

(Updated) Every once in a while I meet someone who's participated in Vancouver's world famous three day novel writing contest. I've tried it myself a couple of times, and was pretty proud that I could churn out 70 pages in three days, regardless of literary merit. So if I can write 70 pages in three days, that leads me to wonder-how much could I write in a month? There's some Vancouverites who are going to find out as they participate in NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month.
NaNoWriMo is a online program that was developed in San Francisco during the dot com boom. Thousands of people from around the world now participate-with the goal of developing a 50,000 word novel by the end of November. The website encourages participants to connect through area forums, and the Vancouver boards look quite active. Events planned for Vancouver participants are meet ups in local coffee shops to discuss writing and group "write-ins" in an office tower between Davie and Smithe.
If you're a writer who wants to participate, you can still sign up. NaNoWriMo takes registration right up until Nov 30th. I think I'm going to participate myself, though I'm unsure if I'm going to make the 50,000 word mark this year-perhaps if I could figure out a way to weave some Beyond Robson entries into the story...
If I'm successful at writing, I'll let you know how my progress is going.
