102005_redlight.jpgLots of literary stuff this week, and especially from those fine purveyors of local literature, Arsenal Pulp Press. I am going to have my hands mostly full going to the Writers Fest every day but there is some other good stuff in here too.

1 - The Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival , as I posted yesterday, is on until Sunday. Tonight is an event called "All You Can Eat: A Literary Buffet" which will feature authors from Arsenal Pulp Press: Clint Burnham, Kevin Chong, Ivan E. Coyote, Anne Fleming, Charlotte Gill, Emily Pohl-Weary, Matt Rader, Sher-D Wilson, and The Writers Festival Go-Go Dancers! Go-Go dancers! Don't you let anyone tell you that literary events are boring.

2 - Next up, also from Arsenal, is the launch of its hot new anthology Red Light: Superheroes, Saints and Sluts" this weekend at Rime, 1130 Commercial Drive. Go for dinner or drinks or just to hear a selection of the fine writing, as well as the projected visual works. If you see me there and I look bitter, it's because I tried to think of something to write for this anthology for a long time, so long that the deadline passed and I never submitted anything. But there you go. I'm sure it's still a fine book anyways.

3 - July Radul's show, "The Day That I Walked Away From the Society That I Had Never Known" opens at the Artspeak Gallery (233 Carrall Street) with an artist's reception on Friday night.

4 - I am a constant collector of flyers all around the city, and I have to admit to writing about the booklaunch of "The Sleep of Four Cities" mostly because I am so intriged by the cover of the book. The title is pretty good too. Unfortunately I have been all over the internet just now and can't find a picture of it, so you will just have to go and see for yourself. Poetry by Jen Currin, formerly of Portland but now of Vancouver, being read at the illustrious Cafe Montmartre, 4362 Main street, October 26th, 8 PM .

5 - Suzanne Northcott's show, 'Elements' opens at the Linda Lando Fine Art Gallery way out West at 2001 West 41st Avenue. The show runs until October 29th, with an opening reception tonight, Thursday October 20, from 6 - 9 PM.
