Well don't say I didn't warn you. There are a LOT of high-calibre art events going on this weekend, so if you have other plans you should probably think about cancelling them!
1 - First up is The Abbott Street Studio (306 Abbott Street)open house that I mentioned yesterday. This is on tonight from 4:30 - 8:30. There will be lots of great designers there as well as some amazing artwork. Wander through studios and see what local artists Robert Chaplin, David Wilson, Bruce Turnbull, Donald Todd and Shirley Williams have been up to. Think of it as a warm up for the Eastside Culture Crawl.
2 - Also tonight is the gala event and silent auction for the Out of the Rain project. It starts at 7 PM at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown and is open to the public. I'm not entirely sure about what the gala event part of it is, but I haven't seen anything about a cover charge or a dress code, so I'm going to check it out.
3 - Then the massively popular Eastside Culture Crawl is on this weekend.
Friday, Nov. 18th: 5 PM - 10 PM
Saturday, Nov. 19th: 11 AM - 6 PM
Sunday, Nov. 20th: 11 AM - 6 PM
There are a lot of artists in this city willing to let you troll through their workspace, and this is just a gratifying experience that it really should not be missed. It can be a little overwhelming though, so the organizers have provided a printable map for you to take around with you, as well as helping you find art by artist's name, artistic medium, building or even just a randomly generated profile if you are stuck. I'll be posting a list of my top 5 picks later today as well.
