Usually it is worthwhile to get memberships to places you go a lot. For some reason though, this usually takes me a long time to figure out. So now, after I have spent about $80 at the Art Gallery this year, I decided to get a membership. It's ok, it's still very worth it, it would have just been even more worth it if I had gotten it earlier.

Anyways. As a basic member ($60 for the year, or $30 if you have a student card), you get free, unlimited access for one year, no waiting in line, 2 complimentary one-time guest passes, invitations (for 2) to gallery openings and events, a subsciption to the gallery newsletter, access to the gallery library, 10% off at the gift shop, and some other stuff, all very exciting. You also have the option to join the Young Associates, which is vaguely described as a group of young professionals, ages 20-40 with an interest in supporting the Gallery.
I did join this, even though it sounds a bit pretentious and snitty, but maybe I can make some changes once I'm inside. We'll see.

What the brochure doesn't mention is that you also get to go to the FUSE events for free, and without waiting in line. And once you are there, you have access to the FUSE members lounge on the 4th floor, which is where the DJ is and you can hang out and talk art with the other members. If that isn't enough incentive for you, remember that supporting arts in your community benefits everyone. So there.
