Weekly Shot of Art - Flickr

Have I mentioned how much I love flickr? Probably not, since it only just falls under the scope of "art in Vancouver". I look at it every day, however, and am constantly astounded by it's reach, so I felt that a nod in it's direction was necessary. Flickr is essentially a photo-sharing site, but it goes much farther than photos of bachelor parties and bar mitzvah's. Artists can showcase their work, network, socialize, become inspired by joining groups and etc.
Originally created by Vancouver-based Ludicorp, it has since been acquired by (surprise, surprise) Yahoo!. I hate it, but I guess that is the business model these days and can't really be helped. However, flickr still exists in all it's awesomeness, the only difference being that if you don't have an account yet, you now have to create a Yahoo one first.
A flickr search for the tags "Vancouver" and "Art" returned 1282 public photos. Some if it is really good, some of it is questionable, but the same can be said of art anywhere. I've found the best way to really get a feel for the site/community is to get in there and start poking around a bit. The more you see the more you are intrigued and inspired and that is never a bad thing.
