1. The Artspeak Gallery (233 Carrall St.) opens "HEYDAY" this Friday at 8 PM which will show the art fo Peter Freitag, Kristi Malakoff and Sarah Massecar.

"Pulling apart ready-made objects, images and modes of production, the artists in Heyday reveal through deconstruction. Using the methods of decoupage and assemblage, the works in the exhibition share concerns regarding manufacture, currency and coining new languages."

Sounds pretty good. There is also an artist talk to go along with this one. Peter Freitag will be at the gallery Saturday, April 1st at 2 PM.

2.. The Contemporary Art Gallery (555 Nelson St.)presents a show tomorrow night that touches my own heart. "When Hangover Becomes Form" features the works of Hadley+Maxwell, Rachel Harrison and Scott Lyall.
Reception is tomorrow night (Thursday, March 30th) at 6 PM onwards and if you miss it the art will be up until May 28th.
Added bonus: there will be 2 different artists' talks at the gallery. The first will be Rachel Harrison and Scott Lyall moderated by curator and art historian Daniel Adler on Saturday, April 1st at 4 PM and the second is Thursday, April 20th at 7 PM.

3. "Gloom, Boom & Doom". art by Vancouver artist Christian Kliegel is showing at the Access Artist Run Centre (206 Carrall St.) starting Friday night.

"Kliegel has taken his recent investigation into the stock market as a starting point for his work. The artist has lost a substantial amount of "paper money" in the recent market correction of Mineral and Energy Stocks on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange simulator. As a result, Kliegel has sought advice from Charles Haynes, a stock analyst, architect, and publisher of www.goldspinner.com. This website predicts stock performances on the CBOE, NASDAQ and NYSE. As part of the exhibition, the artist has asked Haynes to give an introductory lecture on investing in securities and the world of trading derivatives in lieu of an Artist's Talk."

I have to say I think this is the first art show I've ever heard of about the stock market. Could be good, or... I'm going to check it out for sure.

The opening reception is March 31st at 8 PM and the art is up until May 6th. No artist talk on this one, but you can get investment advice at the gallery on April 8th at 2 PM. Whoo!

4. Ripe Magazine is having a silent auction fundraiser at the Bjornson Kajiwara Gallery (1727 West Third Ave) on Saturday, April 1st from 4 PM on. Work from Rodney Graham, Adam Harrison, Heidi Johansen, Danny Singer, Dan Sierney, Mike Grill, Sylvia Grace Borda and many more. Ripe magazine is a gorgeous, ambitious publication and if you have some money you should go to this and support them. I am flat broke so I will be skipping it, unfortunately.

5. Finally local artist Nicole Sanches has an opening at the Blim Gallery (#197 East 17th Ave, at Main St.) from April 1st to 30th. She creates tiny dioramas and for this show the theme is "Lost Luggage".
