Centre A Hosts OurTube: May 30th
Centre A's newest project, Our Tube, is a reconstruction of YouTube in a live forum for discussion. Not only can you broadcast your video, you can also share the experience of watching video with others and talking about it. Yes, talking to real live humans, not virtual users identified by icons and profiles - what a novel idea!
The first OurTube session will take place on Wednesday May 30th from 7-9pm at Centre A (2 West Hastings St). Guest curated by Steven Tong (Vancouver-based curator and CSA co-founder), the theme of the night's presentations will be "How does the internet change our view of video?" Interested in participating? Feel free to bring your own video or show a website related to the theme.
Subsequent sessions will be held on the last Wednesday of every month, after regular gallery hours. Curators will feature young local and visiting curators and artists. The guest curator will facilitate the evening, selecting series of videos for projection, and initiating a discussion afterwards. The videos presented may include almost anything, depending on the curator's vision - they could include personal documentation, art works, historical video or website downloads.

Everytime I take the bus by Centre A, I think of how bizarre it is that the binners on their way to the ReturnIt depot walk bay this window and probably see a day's worth of income being displayed as Art.
