zipcar_logo May is now half over. I know you want to know who the winner is of our May Flowers photo contest, but we're still judging. Luckily though, I have something that should tide you over: Another contest, again sponsored by Zipcar.

This time the theme is "Transit." So get out there and take your best photos for your chance to win a $100 gift certificate from The Wolf and Hound, my favourite Irish restaraunt in the city, and a further prize to be revealed at a later time!

Theme: Transit
Starts: Right now!
Flickr Tag: br07_transitcontest
Submission Deadline: Monday, May 28th 2007 at midnight Pacific time.

Keep reading for full contest rules!

How to Participate:

1. Break out your camera (or go through your collection) and come up with photos relating to the theme.

2. Each Participant can submit up to three photos. If a participant submits more than three photos only the first three will be considered. Late submissions will not be considered.

3. Upload your submissions to the Beyond Robson Flickr group tagged with "br07_transitcontest" (sans quotes). If you don't already have a Flickr account you will need to create one (don't worry, it's free) and join the Beyond Robson group before you can submit your photos. Only photos which are uploaded, submitted and tagged properly will be considered.

4. Only BC residents are eligible to win. BR staff are precluded from participating because of the whole "conflict of interest" thing.

5. Watch for announcements on the Beyond Robson front page. Winners will be contacted via flickr.

Judging:

The winning photo will be chosen by a panel of highly qualified experts, consisting this time of the following people.

* Matt Simpson, Beyond Robson Photo Guy Hey, that's me!
* Peter Pimentel, Beyond Robson editor
* Colleen Coplick, Beyond Robson staffer
* Julia Kozlov, Beyond Robson staffer
* John Goldsmith, Celebrity Guest Star

Photo Requirements:

Images should preferably be JPEGs but any format supported by Flickr will work.
Photos should be a minimum of 600px on their longest side.
Images must be tagged: br07_transitcontest
Digital and analog methods, and darkroom techniques are permitted.

Sundry:

That's it, really. Keep an eye out for future contests, but for now we look forward to your submissions!

Hmm, so what's the deal on this site with soliciting a US company over a Vancouver-based one which pretty much offers the same thing? Check out cooperativeauto.net....

Not to mention, the car co-op is cheaper and parks their cars on the street, as opposed to Zip which parks its cars in a dark alley under the skytrain tracks where people literally smoke crack at all times of the day (behind the dollar giant at 10th and commercial). It is quite obvious that the zip people did not do their research when they chose that spot. It makes me wonder how much they researched ANYTHING when they moved into Vancouver.

We don't select one company over another. Zipcar chose to advertise with us, and we'd welcome advertising from CAN as well :)

"Celebrity Guest Star" -- well, I don't know about that, but flattery gets you extra points. Thanks for choosing me as a judge . . . .

For all those who submit work to the contest -- creativity also gets extra points. Let's see the good stuff!

Yo Peter, thanks for explaining that they actually do sponsor you. Makes sense that Sean said that he "loves" Zipcar in his morning brew the other day...

Hey people,
Lay off the zipcar. It's car sharing. Sure it's for profit, but if it gets people using their cars less isn't it a good thing? I have a friend who just sold his car after joining zipcars (in Toronto).
