Cool Vancouver Artist - Dave Barnes

I recently came across a cool local artist, Dave Barnes when reading about a show called Brave Art in Whistler this past spring. Showcasing artists who collectively had one common thread, skate and street culture, the show included over 150 pieces from some of the world's best street and grafitti artists.

A few local artists were included in this show including Barnes who's work really captures a unique sense of that culture. An illustrator according to his bio, "he tries to use art as a translation of experience and observation that derives inspiration from environment and memory."

As a recent honours graduate of Sheridan college's illustration program, Barnes' artistic approach involves transforming scrap wood, canvases and collage elements with bold observational sketches of scattered objects and daily life, and faded Rockwellian imagery to form a nostalgic narrative".

You may have also seen his work recently in a show on Robson called, "Another Fantastic Waste of Time" at El Kartel.

His work is one to look out for and worth checking out if you happen to come across it.
