Emily Carr Undergrad Exhibition Opens This Saturday!
Just a quick note that this Saturday on May 3rd, the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design... ahem, I mean Emily Carr University of Art and Design, will be having their annual opening night gala complete with snacks and the usual wheat and grape-based beverages. I highly recommend this event to anyone with any interest in the arts, cinema, animation or design!
Going last year for the first time, I was just blown away at the quality of art and design these undergraduate students were producing. It required a return on a second day, just to get a chance to check out the displays without having to jostle with the uber-artsy crowds (there's opportunity for some quality people-watching too). Coming from a technical background, I was particulary fond of the industrial design section, where many projects looked like they were created by the same creative geniouses at Apple Inc. (in fact, past Emily Carr grads have actually worked on the industrial design team at Apple). I'm also looking forward to seeing Melanie Coles' Waldo display... I just wonder how she's gonna fit it in there.
So have a look around, have a drink or three, and mingle! This is simply one of Vancouver's best annual art events...
The Undergraduate Exhibition Opening Night occurs on Saturday, May 3, from 7-10pm at the Granville Island campus of Emily Carr, 1399/1400 Johnston Street. After the opening night, the exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 6pm daily until May 11.
