Vancouver Biennale Artwork Stolen
Less than a month ago, the Vancouver Biennale flew British artist Sophie Ryder back to Vancouver to replace a part of her sculpture, "Minotaur and Hare" after it was vandalized in its exhibition space, VanDusen Gardens. (No, it wasn't me).
Now the hare has gone missing -- and whether the work of a determined prankster or someone who knew the worth of the art they were thieving, the culprits are likely facing heavy fines or jailtime. My question is how the hell they managed this -- the sculpture is made of wire mesh and ceramic, and images of the artist re-attaching the hare after its first pillaging show it to be pretty unmalleable.
Suggested sentences for the thieves include being forced to decipher the maze of the sleeping minotaur, wake it up and face that thing like a real man, or 3 months straight viewing of the engagement rings.
