Industrial Brand Creative points to an interesting art project going on in East Van. No, it's not an illegal reno, it's a bridge between two houses meant as a "discreet work of art" and social comment on architecture, community and personal space. Officially named Bridge (Wooden Arch), the sculpture by local artist Reece Terris crosses from a deck of one house to a veranda of another. Makes it even easier to borrow that cup of sugar.

The opening is over (wouldn't that be fun, standing around a back alley sipping wine in huge glasses, instead of in a crowded gallery?), but the bridge will be up for a little while yet, spanning a gap between houses on 1763 McSpadden Avenue, just east of Commercial Drive (between 4th and 5th Avenues). Apparently Bridge will be auctioned off and proceeds will go to the Presentation House Gallery, who is showcasing the project.

"Bridge is a sculptural work, a thirty-seven-foot-long span spiraling from the upper-deck of one house to the veranda of its neighbor. At first glance, Bridge appears to be a friendly gesture, a joining of two (private) properties in a neighborhood known for strong community involvement. However, after sustained viewing, Bridge emerges as a discrete work of art, and in doing so provides a critique of the right-angularity of common urban residential construction."
