Best Colourist in the City. Hands Down

robson0705chemaddict.jpg
About a year and a half ago, I was in dire straights, hair wise. It was dull, lifeless, boring, and in desperate need of attention. I could have been a poster child for any "miracle" shampoo or conditioner.

A place on Davie had caught my eye several times and since I had a complicated request, I booked a consultation with their top colourist. That turned out to be the best decision I could have ever made for my hair.

Ok, this is ON Robson, but still

Ok, so while this isn't "BEYOND Robson", it's still noteworthy.

Red Burrito, is on Robson, and it's Gooooood. Damn good.

West enders no longer have to trek to the Drive for the fab Mexican that is a Red Burrito.

No, ya`ll (n`me) can now head down to Robson, just past Bute, to grab yourself some wicked Mexican. You`re looking for a weekday lunch, this is your new "secret".

Oh Metro Lady, how many times must I tell you NO!?

Anyone who walks down Bute in the mornings, or for that matter, on the south side of Robson street weekday mornings knows immediately who I mean.

There is a grandmotherly, grey haired woman, in a green Metro smock. The first day I saw her, she startled me into jumping. She was hiding - well, i call it hiding, she probably called it 'standing' or some other innocuous activity - behind the Nutrition House at Robson & Bute.

Your Quintessential Vancouver Eatery

2272007Robson.VanFood.jpgI've been scouring my brain for days now. I have a good friend and business partner coming into town from the US Midwest for the first time ever, on Thursday. We are planning to go for dinner Thursday night to discuss the presentation he's coming into town for and I can not decide where to take him.

I'm trying to find a restaurant that epitomizes Vancouver, a place that's not only yummy, but is very... well, Vancouver.

Because we've also got to discuss business, as well as every "ooh shiny!" moment we come across, (it happens a lot with us), we need a place that's not too noisy, not a chain, really damn good, and nothing he could find anywhere else. Oh, and they have to be ok with us staying for a long time (that ooh shiny thing again).

Calling all Children of the 80's

01182007-robsoncoreyf.jpgIf you're anything like me, you're a child of the 80's, and can recite Stand By Me, Goonies, & the Lost Boys verbatim.

Ok, well, even if you CAN'T (and no one will hold that against you), then you at least need to head to the Plaza Club on Friday night for a one time only, first Canadian performance ever of The Truth Movement. I know, I had to ask who they were too.

Frontman Corey Feldman (ding ding ding! that'll ring a bell or two) and his ever present sidekick, Corey Haim, are in town filming a "reality sitcom" for A&E, and to fill their off hours, they're holding a concert.

This seven member band has released three albums (who knew?) including one called Still Searching for Soul.

Admission to the concert - marking the band's debut appearance in Vancouver is by donation to the Food Bank. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the concert scheduled to kick off at 9 p.m. And yes, Haim will put in an appearance on stage as well. I know, I'm as shocked as you are.

BC Place Collapses

robson152007-bcplace.jpg.jpgWe knew something bad would happen due to the nasty weather. The roof of BC Place collapsed inwards today just after noon.

Apparently, the strong winds, heavy rain and sleet (Vancouver's version of "snow") tore the fabric roof on BC Place. The roof is held up by air pressure, which is why you've always got to go through the 2 doors to get in. Any hole in the roof will cause the whole thing to fall in, which is exactly what happened.

Check local news - they're all showing "breaking news", with reporters on scene.
