Ryan Shannon scored a clutch goal in the shootout on Sunday night to win the game against Chicago for the struggling Canucks. What interests me more is the reaction of Chicago goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin. He took a shot at the back of Shannon's head as Shannon was wheeling away to celebrate. How did he get away with that? Recently, many players have been fined and suspected for similar actions (see Todd Bertuzzi, Chris Simon, and Steve Downie). The only difference between those acts, which received severe suspensions and fines, and Khabibulin's, is the result. The Vancouver Sun caught up with Ross Rebagliati recently. Rebagliati, of Nagano's 'weedgate' fame, was the first person to ever win an Olympic gold medal in snowboarding... and then officials found traces of marijuana in his urine sample. Whoops! It was a big deal at the time, but then everyone gained some perspective and realized that marijuana doesn't enhance performance - it hinders it!

It's pretty much a given that Canucks G.M. Dave Nonis will make some kind of move before the trade deadline. But what will he do? Is it really worth it? Although I believe that getting a decent center to form a second-line around is the priority, apparently Nonis thinks that shoring up the blue line is the best option.
