Dressed To the Nines By To the Nines

To the Nines

It all began when Owen Covert bought too many T-shirts. Using his love for graphic design, he put it to good use and began what would soon be known as To the Nines. Introduced by mutual friends about a year ago, Nikolai Hobrucker and Owen Covert soon realized they shared ideas for creating a clothing line and combined their separate talents. The product would result in a stylish, streetwear line suited to anyone's wardrobe.

CSS Still Rocks

CSS

Having been listed on the site as one of the best live shows when they made their stop here at Celebrities, CSS proved that they still haven't lost their touch. Joined by new electronica pop act SSION, and darling indie rockers Tilly and the Wall, fans were treated to three amazingly energetic shows in one night.

Why You Must See Fleet Foxes Live

Fleet Foxes

All right, so I kind of borrowed the title from a Fleet Foxes gushing article written a little while ago by Stereogum, but nonetheless that statement holds true and is mandatory for any music and concert enthusiast. The sold out Richards show was flocking with folksters Tueday night, with many donning similar beards to those of the band members (just you wait for the beards at Iron and Wine).

Fleet Foxes delivered an utterly amazing show that left the venue in a silent state of awe. And their banter in between songs, with everything from their thoughts on Sarah Palin to quoting The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, left myself and everyone else with their hearts bursting with love for the Seattle band.

TV on the Radio Leave Their Mark on Vancouver

TV on the Radio

TV on the Radio know how it's done. That is, entertaining an audience for a 90 minute set and making them feel a part of the show. And I think it's safe to say that when the lead singer is drenched front and back in his own sweat, from his seemingly unlimited energy and James Brown-esque hip shimmies, it was a damn good show.

Mogwai and Fuck Buttons Pack The Commodore

Mogwai

Glasgow rockers Mogwai brought their epic, instrumental pieces to a packed Commodore Ballroom last night. Known for their guitar heavy, lengthy songs with the occasional voice distortion, the band's set featured songs from past albums and their most recent The Hawk is Howling. I have always found the band to be the perfect aid in helping me fall asleep, and in some ways their performance last night didn't change that.

SWARM 08 Featuring Andrew Salgado

Andrew Salgado

Local artist Andrew Salgado invited me out to his art opening at the Interurban Gallery, featuring the works of his series Boys' Night Out. Last night also happened to be Swarm 2008's focus on art galleries within Downtown and Gastown, and so after viewing his work and asking a few questions, we ventured around Gastown to view the talent this city has to offer.
