Hours of Liquor Service Council Meeting October 8th

Hell of a title, if I do say so myself.
It's about that time that I remind you about the tyrannical and soul-crushing status of our current liquor laws. There's a council meeting this October 8th that seeks to make a movement towards later hours for food primary establishments.

Burrard Bridge Lane Closure. Thoughts?

With the end of summer upon us, and the folks at CityCaucus still promoting gregorsgridlock.com, I wanted to know how you, the average Beyond Robsoner felt about the changes.
As far as my life is concerned, the lane closure has had little impact. Granted, I usually travel over the bridge via bus anyways, but still, there seems to be little slowdown, other than the usual rush-hour traffic that blocks up most of Vancouver and the surrounding cities.

Just Legalize It?

Sean's post the other day had me thinking: Why haven't we legalized cannabis already?
I know the argument's brought up all the time at the National level, but why hasn't the City of Vancouver taken a stand?

Non Stop Rush Hour The Future?
I've gotten in a little trouble in the past when linking to CityCaucus.com, but I'll be damned if that's going to stop me from linking to an excellent article by Daniel Fontaine outlining our potential for a grid-locked future here in Vancouver.

Green Mountain Music Festival
While the Green Mountain Music Festival may not be in Vancouver, there's a benefit show for it tonight night that is, which you can check out here.
And if you don't know about the Green Mountain Music Festival, it's three days of hard Nanaimo rocking to support Cystic Fibrosis research.
There's a pretty heavy story behind the festival with lots of twists and turns, and Dan Fumano over at Discorder has written an excellent article which outlines the history of the event.
The festival itself is happening August 8th, so all you city-folk can take a trip over to Nanaimo for some rock.
But if you just can't wait, there's a benefit show tonight @ The Biltmore for only $10.
Go out and support a good cause with some good old fashioned rock and roll.

Vancouver Establishments No Longer Scanning Driver's Licenses.
In a moment of 'fucking finally', the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia has decided that bars and clubs can no longer scan drivers licenses.
Civil Liberties 1 Tyranny 0, for those keeping score at home.
