The Makeout loves Daft Punk Tonight

I think that my very first exposure to Daft Punk was in grade eight when they played "Around the World" at every single highschool dance. Even today, the addictive repeating chant of the song title brings back haunting memories of cheap cologne, smoke machines and getting buzzed off of half a Mike's Hard. While I've grown up a little since my days of pre-pubescent youth (it now takes me at least an entire Mike's Hard to catch a buzz), my need to motion the crafting of boxes around my head with my hands when that song comes on has never left.

Tonight, young and old Daft Punk lovers can you unite at The Makeout's "I heart Daft Punk" dance party! Hosted by The Makeout's regulars, DJs Sincerely Hana and Dani, along with My!Gay!Husband!, this Wednesday night tribute will begin at 10pm at the Royal Unicorn.

Radioclit will Get You Off Tonight

radioclit1.jpgTonight you can put your vibrator to rest because British DJ duo, Radioclit, will titillate you for a good few hours at the Royal Unicorn Cabaret. Based in East London, Swedish-born Johan Karlberg and Parisian Etienne Tron (also known as DJ Tron and DJ Shark Attack), will be heading across the pond to share their ghetto pop with the young and drunk of Vancouver.

What started out as an internet radio show just after the millennium is now two hot albums. Radioclit released an EP, Mature Macho Machine, in late 2006, and a second 17-track album, Hard Working Class Vol. 1, in March this year. While they're best known for their remix of Bonde Do Role's "Gasolina", tracks off their newest album include remixes of Lily Allen, Turbulence, David Banner and Justin Timberlake - all with the duo's signature "techno jihad" sound.

Tonight's show presented by Salbourg will also feature Saturday regulars Camdales and Paul Devro. Head down around eleven for a full-on group orgy by one. Batteries not required.

I hate Biology but I love Shapes and Sizes

In grade 11 I thought I wanted to be a biologist, so I took Biology 11, which was sort of a disaster for me. Some biologist a long long time ago thought it would be a fantastic idea to classify, categorzie and order EVERYTHING. Maybe my brain just doesn't think that way. So, when I first ran into a band called Shapes and Sizes, I was slightly worried that all my sixteen year old fears of classification, categorization and order would suddenly be awakened through music. Luckily, I was wrong.

Julie Doiron might make you cry Tonight

Julie Doiron makes the music you want to hear when your kitten has just died, and it's raining outside, and you have no heat in your apartment. Her sad, drowsy voice sings songs about winter and heartbreak, accompanied only by soft acoustic guitar or piano. Tonight, Doiron, along with Calvin Johnson, will be making a stop at Video In Studios while on their intense, thirty-two day North American tour.

The Young and the Restless helps me stay young (at least)

A good friend of mine from highschool and I recently reunited and decided to help each other out of our pending old ladyhoods. So after being handed a snazzy little business card by a stranger at The Royal Unicorn during one of our hopeless attempts, we were quickly reminded of how very young we actually might be with the year "80's" printed on the card in bright blue.

Last Thursday while at work, I called up my friend and announced, "Tonight's the night! We're gonna be young and restless!" Then my friend said, "Don't you work on Fridays?" But I chose to ignore her question, and at 10pm sharp, we headed down to Gastown.
