Everyone's favourite guessing game is back by popular demand! Well, maybe not exactly popular demand. It was actually just one person that wrote in. And it wasn't so much a demand as a "Hey, what happened to Where is this or whatever it was called?" But, hey, who am I to deny GWV's legion of fan.

Guess Where Vancouver asks you to name the location of the above photo. Post your guesses after the jump.

People's Prom 2008

20080125_prom.jpg

If you have fond memories of high school prom then screw you. You had your fun. The annual People's Prom is for everyone that was too smart, cynical, ugly, or awkward to enjoy that obligatory 'highlight' of adolescence. That's not to say that the squares with social skills and 90210 looks are not invited. People's Prom--one of the best parties of the year--is inclusive and community-minded. It's also queer-friendly and gender-blind. In fact, boys and girls share the same bathrooms. Just don't go at the same time as your date.

20070109-daft.jpgDaft Punk is coming to Vancouver! You may have seen the posters of our favourite chrome-domes around town. But before you shit your dance pants and quit your job so your schedule's free, let's be clear-- it's their movie that's coming, not their live show. This engagement is likely to be more art-house than sci-fi.

'Tis the season for making lists and checking them twice. In my case, I checked more times than I care to mention. Selecting the tracks for this year's "Nice" list wasn't simply a matter of grabbing the songs with the highest play counts in my iTunes, otherwise just five or six artists would dominate. I had to be a bit more evenhanded. There were just a few standout albums in 2007, and they were albums that overflow with many of the year's most memorable tracks.

The Black Lips Contest: Part 2

20071008_blacklips2.jpgUPDATE: the contest is now closed. Congratulations to Chris M our grand prize winner, and Marisa B, our runner up. Stay tuned for our next contest.

The Black Lips are set to rattle Richard's on Richards with a live performance this Thursday. The garage punkers have been known for their raucous live shows and were once banned from several Georgia venues. Show-goers should be prepared for spilled beer and flying stage divers.

For those wanting a preview, the band is having an acoustic in-store performance 5pm on Thursday at Red Cat Records (4307 Main St.). The halal butcher shop next door is going to have a kebab cart for the kids!

For Part 2 of our Black Lips Contest, we are revealing our Grand Prize package:
