Obakki Tea & Tonic

20070627_obakki.jpg
Obakki, newly housed in the beautifully designed space at 44 Water St since December, isn't just serving up locally designed and manufactured garb anymore. To utilize the long counter slicing through the length of the store, Obakki has recently introduced a Tea and Tonic bar, a delicious feature to accompany the finely designed garments lining the opposite wall.

Sample, Sale, Greatness: Weekly Roundup

0620207_kasil.jpgMiss Coquette is hosting a huge sale, one so big that they had to rent another space to fill the goodies with. Starting Thursday June 21 until June 30, head down to 2388 West 4th to browse the $25, $50 and $100 sale racks stuffed with labels like Majestic, Nougat, Narcissist, Sinequanone, Lauren Moffat and Dace. They'll be sharing the room with Scoop, which sells fashions, house and gift wares from LA and NY for 10-40% off the usual ticket price. And don't worry, if you were on your way to Miss Coquette this week, they'll still be open for business at 4372 W. 10th.
Sale hours at 2388 W 4th: Monday-Friday from 10-7pm, Saturday from 10-6, and Sunday from 11-5. See you in the lineup for the fitting room!

Tag Fashion Lab women and mens clothing, featuring (my favourite) Kasil denim, JETS swimwear (looks like this line of swimwear is actually designed for women, not 14 year old girls with tiny bodies, yay!), Odd Molly and 3rdborn. Saturday June 23 from 10am-3pm, cash only. 823 Powell street.
This is the gods of the universe laughing at me...after scouring Vancouver for a pair of Kasil "Simone" jeans I tried on at Suasion in Victoria, I finally caved, called Suasion and told them to mail me the jeans already, I'm tired of dreaming. The next day, I hear about this sale with Kasil denim. Right here in Vancouver. Oye.

More after the jump...

Vancouver Job Woes: Diary of the Crazies

06172007_jobs.jpgNames and details have been changed to protect the identity of of the crazies. Only my name remains the same.

So for the past little while, I've been looking for some extra part-time work. I cruise through craiglist every so often to see if there's any fantastic gigs. I interviewed about a month ago for an assistant job for a local casting director ("F"); great pay, and good hours leaving plenty enough time remaining to write and do what I do. I was first loser due to concern that my dedication to writing would interfere with F's needs for an on-call assistant. No biggie.

Then I get a call last week; the assistant F hired is on vacation, would I be interested in working a few days this week? Absolutely. Then the shit went down the can.

Boycott American Apparel?

"Oh yeah, smile just like that while I slide it in...you're gonna be famous baby"

I heard some pretty disgusting things about American Apparel last night.

Now, I don't shop there often but I know heaps upon heaps of other people do. Heck, we've even got our own Beyond Robson swag on the way straight from AA.

Have you noticed how in the past year, their whole "Sweatshop Free" advertising campaign has quietly disappeared? What about the ads of young factory and store workers in pornographic poses? Not to mention the company's sleazebag CEO Dov Charney, a native Montrealer who conducts interviews in his underwear, gives vibrators out to employees, and has several sexual exploitation lawsuits against him (3 of these 4 were settled out of court, the final is still pending.)
