You know how when you go to a book launch they only have out a plate of stale, broken Wheat Thins and wilty, shiny cheddar and you're snackish so you end up eating it anyways, all the while thinking how awesome it would be if there were a way to combine the comfort of food with the comfort of books? Well LUCKY YOU, because tomorrow night is the launch of Arsenal Pulp Press' Comfort Food for Breakups - The Memoir of a Hungry Girl, by Marusya Bociurkiw and as if it's not awesome enough that she's writing about comfort foods, they will also be served for hungry listeners!
I don't know that much about Marusya Bociurkiw, but I like her already. This is what Arsenal has to say about her:
In these intimate vignettes, food--soup, eggs, chocolate truffle cake, perogies--nourishes, comforts, and heals the wounds of the past. Knishes recall a father haunted by memories of time spent in a concentration camp during World War II; chocolate evokes memories of queer girls and liaisons in dim lesbian bars.
The book launch and reading will be held tomorrow night at Barbara-jo's Books to Cooks, which is just the obvious place for a book about food. The event starts at 6 PM, but the reading itself is not until 7 PM, giving you lots of time to browse the book table *and* the buffet table and to snag a good mat to lie down on while listening to Marusya. OK, I made that last bit up...there's probably not going to be any mats for lying down on. Oh, and you may not want to wear your sweatpants either.
Thursday, May 24th
6 PM - 8 PM, Reading is at 7 PM,

Hmm why does this make me feel like the only person ever never to have gone to a book launch.
But I would have eaten it too.

Sooooo much great stuff is happening tomorrow night! I have Marusya Bociurkiw's first poetry book, Halfway to the East. I bought it because I heard her read and she was really pretty damn good. I'm sure this event won't disappoint.
