Erin Moure reads Saturday

erinmoure.jpgThe Kootenay School of Writing has sponsored another Canadian poetry great, Erin Moure, to read at Spartacus this weekend. It's bound to be bustling--this will be a serious poetry crowd. At Moure's request (she likes to be prepared!), some folks submitted questions to her weeks ago. Moure will be reading from her latest book, Little Theatres, published by Anansi and shortlisted for the 2006 Griffin Poetry Prize. A little excerpt is after the jump.

Homage to the Mineral of the Cabbage

In the cabbage there is something of flight grounded,
something of the sky
Past the wings of the cabbage, which are folded
and folded over to ground it,
lie more wings, pensive with heaven.

The reading is an early one, 7:30 pm Saturday @ Spartacus Books, 319 West Hastings, upstairs. Photo by local auteur chien courant

Hey Shirley, how was it? I wasn't able to make it that night.

Hey there!
I had the beginnings of a flu and only stayed for the first half before heading out to see Buffy St. Marie and Final Fantasy (a weird combo though both are excellent musicians). So I missed the discussion part.
To be totally honest, although she is talented, I find I am on the line when it comes to this crowd of 80-90s era Montreal feminist/language poets. Some like Nicole Brossard I quite like, others, more along the Gail Scott trajectory, just are less my kind of thing. Erin Moure fell more on the Gail Scott side. But then I was so groggy ..
