Great Literature and Reads on the Cheap and SALE on DEC 1st to 3rd!

ABC new addy.jpgLooking for a book that is out of print? Or that much talked-about title abuzzed in the media? BUT not willing to submit yourself to the outrageous CAD prices despite the parity between the US and us? Some global chain book stores are trying to use some arcane excuse, but I would rather just support our local book businesses instead. Well, the Cheap Bastard has this to say-- go check out your local purveyor of pre-loved tomes/texts: ABC Book and Comic Emporium at their new location:

1539 West Broadway (W. Broadway and Granville)
ALL books are 20% off!!!!

Pre-loved Tomes/Texts (PLTs) are an environmentally-friendly boon to society. You recycle the knowledge, keeping obscure and out-of-print books in circulation, all that energy output and pulping of air-filtering trees are put to better uses. PLTs put a percentage of cash back into your pockets, and likewise the next owner gets it at a fraction of the cost for a brand new copy. A rather controversial practice, if you are scholarly, conscientious and neat, your marginalia and notes in the books can now help the next reader, and make their reading experiences richer. A practice that I espouse... I leave notes and ideas for the next reader, so they can gain a wider scope from just one book! Imagine! A reading, self-education community! On the cheap, too!

A collective of those wonderful people who helps recycle PLTs are the ABC Book and Comic Emporium. One of the hidden gems of Vancouver, they have been around for 60 years, and the owner, Skip has always remained in the area of Granville and Davie, but as of Dec 1st, they are moving across the bridge to Granville and Broadway.

It seems counter-logical to establish themselves amidst another used-book dealer, Tanglewood Books and also Oscars, and of course Chapters across the street, but Skip is optimistic. Not only will his pricing prove to be competitive with large chains like Chapters, ABC Book Emporium is specializing in pocketbooks, Comics and Magazine back issues, and therefore not competing with Oscars that deals in Art books, and Tanglewood is dealing more in oversized books. Emporium's new location is a cozy 1 level meaning the book-stock will be stream-lined to pocket-books of various genres, but the Comics and Magazines remain the same.

Furthermore, Skip believes that moving the Book Emporium to Granville and Broadway will serve to facilitate customer's conveniences -- all bookshops in one locale. It is also a major thoroughfare for people who live in the neighborhood, and also foot and bus traffic to the new location.

ABC Book Emporium's Grand Re-opening is on Dec. 1st, 2007, and for the next 3 Days (Dec 1-3) there will be a book-sale of 20% off all stock. After the sale days, there is always the ongoing volume discount of 20% for 10 books or more.

Frequent Buses servicing the area: 9, 16, 17, UBC 99 B-line
New Address: 1539 west broadway (corner of Granville and Broadway)
