So I've joined the band Blogwagon. No no, I mean I've joined the blog bandwagon. I have come to rely on this self-empowering new media form for fresh opinion that is free from the omnipresent grips of corporatism (or is it?). It's starting to shape the way we communicate (oh, how lame does that sound?).
There is such a mish mash of cliques and scenes that I think Beyond Robson will be good for Vancouver. Now, I'm not saying that we're going to ride in on our shiny high horses and unite the disparate tribes of the city. Nor am I saying that we're going to exploit and entrench theses divisions to our own devices. I just think that we will mirror the diverse mosaic (I didn't just use the words diverse mosaic did I?) and cultural patchwork (where do I get this stuff from?) of Vancity.
So what will I bring to the literary potluck that is Beyond Robson? Anger. Rage. Deeply ingrained cynicism... erm, I mean I will examine the ever changing socio-political landscape of the urban environs. Um, yeah, that's it. Some topics that you can expect: Freeway expansion and the end of the age of oil, the privatization and Americanization of Vancouver (TelusSphere, Teresen Gas), really creepy advertising tactics, underground art, underground music, Vancouver's media monopoly, Province headlines, city planning, the VPD... you get it.
