Latin Fiesta!

It was some kind of fiesta! at Trout Lake last Sunday at the Latin Summer Fest. Put on by the "Latinos in Action" group the event was a cultural marketplace, music showcase and culinary spread designed to promote Latin culture in Vancouver. I slept in so I missed the parade that was apparently at 10AM, and the Queen of Samba performance, but the party was still hopping when I got there after noon.
It was so hot that it was almost possible to forget we were still in Vancouver. I ate some churros, checked out some sexy Colombian bikinis on sale, and mingled in the shade with a young family while we listened to Salsa Beat from the Fito Garcia band and some Latin funk from the Myles Bygelow Future Sound group (pictured). There was all kinds of amazing food to be had, information kiosks for associations like "Amigos de Cuba", Latin music all day, a variety of shops and even midway rides for the kids. It was great fun and everywhere were people smiling, speaking in Spanish, just hanging out and having a great time. The Latinos in Action's motto is "World peace...one block at a time" and if that's the case they have crossed another one off their list.
