So today I got a letter from my landlord saying that too many people have their windows open and we're losing heat and stuff. At first I was all like whatever. But its these little things that add up. I mean, it sort of seems useless when like every country in the world is trying to address climate change while the biggest culprit will have nothing to do with it. So just shut it...your window that is. Put on a sweater and an extra pair of socks. Not only will you save money on your heating bill, but you'll save the world too! Well not quite, but at least you'll feel better about yourself when it ends in an apocalyptic deluge of fire and doooooooooooooom.
I have to admit that I'm totally guilty. I hate being cold. I'm like a cat. I crank up the heat and bask in all its glory. But then I get an email from One Day Vancouver and now I feel all guilty and shit.
One Day Vancouver is a city initiative that tackles climate change, with helpful tips for everyday living. For example, did you know that "windows can account for 25% of your home's heat loss (and) energy-efficient windows can reduce this energy waste by up to 50% and save you significant amounts on your heating bill"? Well now you do! And knowing approximately fifty percent of the proverbial battle. "Opening your curtains in the morning lets the sun in and reduces your energy use by taking advantage of passive solar heating. By simply closing your curtains at night, you can reduce the heat loss from your home and reduce chills from the windows." So there.

Being cold and cranking up the heat is one thing, being cold and cranking up the heat and then opening up the windows because it's too hot and you can't be bothered to turn down the heat is another. Laziness is the root of much evil
