Woo Christmas. Time to reconnect with the fam and loved ones. Time to squirm through your family obligations. Time to give poignantly appropriate gifts to your loved ones. Time to bitch about capitalist present-buying protocols. And hopefully a time where we'll all enjoy some warm food across the board. Christmas means different things to different people, but it's definitely always Christmas around here, irregardless of religion or social situation. For many less than affluential residents or homeless folk, it can be tough time, presents or no. But there are at least some things set up to cater to these people, actually attempting to spread peace on Earth and goodwill to all.
I peeked at the Carnegie Christmas program guide and was pretty pleased with what the gang cooked up. Here's a brief run down.
Dec 24
Christmas Eve Celebration, and the Carnegie stays open all night!
Music, videos, pool tournament, and food. Breakfast at 5 am.
Dec 25
Traditional Christmas Dinner for $1.50 with live music.
Evening theatre performance.
Dec 27
Chanukah Dinner for $1.50
Dec31
New Year's Party
Dance and celebrate with rockin' live bands we haven't heard of.
Prizes, party favours, etc. (no chamapagne, sorry. Community events, you know.)
I know, I know you're busy, but for any of you who aren't, why not swing by and hang out with the local gang? There's no shortage of interesting people who will often surprise you. Recently some random guy behind me in line started talking to me, and the first thing he asked me is if I've read John Ralston Saul! I honestly replied I tried but failed. Geez man, it's the holiday season. Why can't we just stick to Doctor Seuss like in the good old days?
