Midnight Mass, Anyone?

Critical Mass is ok and all, but what's up with all these kids all wrapped up in politics and heading home before twilight? All that antagnozing drivers, cheering, and bike crashes gets kind of tiring after a while, so who wouldn't want to try something new? Or maybe you like city rides, but hate crowds. You're just a bit more low key. Well Simon Little has orchestrated a solution, appropriately titled Midnight Mass. Basically, it's what you think it is. A bunch of people who ride bikes around town as the date slips forward on the calendar.

The size of the gang varies, as does the pace of the ride. The ride's been gathering momentum through word of mouth, as well as from Craigs List and MySpace, drawing on insomniacs who wanna meet, mingle, drink booze, and ride slow enough to keep from getting sweaty. Screw the Roxy! All the cool kids are hookin' up after hours on the streets. 020706_pho.jpg

They meet up at 11:46pm, and start pedalling when they feel like it. They ride for maybe an hour, maybe three, before concluding at a 24 hr joint for pizza or Pho. The rides are every second and fourth Thursday (including this Thursday, the 9th), and they meet up at Grandview Park (Commercial and Charles) before proceeding on to who knows where. This'll be a lot more fun than Nytol, anyways. Really.

There's always way too many other things goin on on friday nights. Try competing with house parties, rock shows, ect. ect. ect.

Its true that lots of people have to work friday morning, and its unfortunate. But turnout would actually be lower on a friday - and lets not forget that many many people in the service industry work saturday morning too.

whats wrong with politics? Politics is what happens when people are social... basically always. To be "apolitical" is to be lying.

I think midnight mass is simply a different kind of politics. A little less verbal perhaps.
