Are We The Good Guys?
You may have seen them around the town. Stark, almost desperate messages plastered up on hoardings and vacant walls. "French Terror, British Terror, Israeli Terror, American Terror, Canadian Terror". You might have read Ariadna's post the other day about the massive phrase pasted up on Georgia and Bute which read "Respectfully, if you do not recognize that Canada is participating in murder and blocking natural development can you be conscious?". You might have seen the banner at the Art Gallery during the March 18th War No More demonstration, asking naively, "Are we the good guys?". This is the work of A.S. Dhillon and he is having his first ever solo gallery show this Friday at Dadabase (183 E. Broadway, 8:30pm)
"Are We The Good Guys" is a question aimed not only at the elites who take our armies posing as peace keepers into a never ending war on terror, but also towards those who oppose such actions. The majority of Canadians are opposed to the Iraq War, but many of us profit from it. As I've posted numerous times, all B.C. public pension plans are heavily invested in companies who have contracts with the Pentagon such as S.N.C. Lavalin. This week's Westender features an article on the business of war in Vancouver, calling out local companies NGRAIN, Offshore International, Norsat, Extreme CCTV, and Macdonald and Dettwiler for their participation.
The show dispels the myth that Canada is an innocent bystander to the crimes of George W. Bush and his gang of neocons. We are actively aiding and abetting Uncle Sam in his global misdemeanors. While we may not be the bad guys the question remains, are we the good guys?
