Kids Need to Have Fun

I was just on Ladytron's site (Witching Hour review coming up soon!) and for some reason I clicked on Tour even though there is no way I'll ever forget that April 25 is the special day (so stoked!) and out of the blue something caught my attention: They're playing an all ages show in Pomona.
Isn't that interesting: that's one all-ages gig out of fifteen North American dates. I am so glad I am an adult.
When I was a kid I went to raves but then (we're talking ten years ago) raves were cool and plentiful and still a new concept. I could choose my music (if I had had the knowledge to know the dif) and the scene. Today there are just a handful of all-night techno rave parties going on and they all basically cater to the same demographic and they're ridiculously pricey (my $10/week allowance would not cut it). Before I got into raving I had a brief love affair with local alternative music and went to all-ages gigs (at the New York Theatre, Hastings Community Centre, etc.). There were always concerts back then but I don't think that is the case anymore. It's probably because it is unprofitable to throw an all-ages gig but I think this is the ticket to maintain a stimulated youth.
How do kids do for fun? Unchaperoned house parties? Unsupervised park parties? Schoolyard graffiti? Back alley pot-smoking? All-night study sessions?
I'm starting to think there should be a municipal task force promoting and sponsoring all-age venues and parties so the kids can have their share fair of fun. We seriously need to promote more all-age venues and parties or our "future" is going to pilfer its braincells and weekends by playing video games and drinking shit mixes.

I remember shit mixes. Stealing a little of all of my parents booze, putting it in a jar, replacing the booze with water and chugalug-alug-alug, a hit of acid and some cough medicine. Wake up in a ditch. Those were the days.
