So sure, like everyone else I asked myself if Vancouver would only live up to its apathetic reputation. But I thought hell, at least 30 people should show up, and that would be fun enough. Well Vancouverites, you outdid yourselves. You came out in droves, you brought lots of down-filled pillows, you smacked frenzied strangers upside of the head, and you definitely put the Fun into our No Fun city. By my own bad estimate, I'd say a good couple hundred people came looking for a fight, and (check it out) boy did they find one. I don't think I've ever seen so many laughing and shrieking and hooting and hollering kids in one place before (I use the term 'kids' loosely: I saw peeps aged 5 through to 65 lost in the fray). I was busy squeezing through the chaos trying to attack as many people as possible, and took my share of hits too: my glasses hit the pavement, and some freak did a nasty crotch-shot on me which he paid dearly for.

Around 3:25 somebody yelled "5 more minutes!" and the frenzy re-ignited, and suddenly pillows and more pillows joined the tens of thousands of airborn feathers temporarily blotting out the sunny sunny sun. Robson really bore a striking resemblance to a February blizzard. And the cheering! Do you realize how satisfying it is to be laughing and screaming with a hundred-plus sober people? That shit made my day, like totally. There was this weird elated feeling like we'd accomplished something, whatever the hell it was.

Big thanks to all you who came out and made this the coolest funnest event I've been to since who knows when. You people swing hard and kick ass. Thanks also to the friendly people who decided to borrow brooms from the VAG to clean up the aftermath. (I guess feathers are biodegradable, but they were like everywhere, honey).

Thanks to Lenova for the vid clip which I've linked above.

I think I might've been that freak that gave ya the crotch shot! buzzed head and blonde beard, heavy pillow and frenzy in me eyes. Best time I've had in 15 minutes or less.

Truly an inspiring collective public act of silliness. Here's a quick clip for those who missed it.

Thx, Lenova. I rather dig the claustrophobic 2nd clip. That was definitely my experience.

This looks like so much fun. I'm sorry to have missed out on it - who organized it? and where was it promoted so I don't miss out again next year?

It wasn't exactly organized. I heard it was set up by Pillow Fight Club, but other people use the term Flash Mob like it might be an organizer. Basically it was an email that got lots of circulation. And of course BeyondRobson gave a heads up too.

The pillow fight was wicked!
Granted, I was coughing up feathers for about 3 hours after the fact...but alls well :)

I wish, though, that people had actually just left at 3:15..instead of taking naps and all that haha

When and where's the next awesomely random event happening?

Have you seen this before? It's a number guessing game: http://www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/mentalmaths/guessthenumber.html. I guessed 23063, and it got it right! Pretty neat.
