At first I thought it would be fun to do this thing in my bedroom, but the response has gotten so big, that it's been relocated to the VAG. It is what it sounds like. A very big pillow fight. Or at least it will be if you and your funnest friends decide to take part in this Vancouver first (well, I think it's a Van first. Click here to see a vid clip of a San Fran pillowfight: oh the potential!). Basically everyone shows up near the art gallery around 3, suddenly whips out their pillows, has at it with anyone else who has an overstuffed pillow, and then covertly slips back into the woodwork at 3:15, letting the feathers fall where they may. The only rules are not to hit anyone without a pillow unless they're asking for it, and not to hit anyone with a camera.

The organizers (The Pillow Fight Club) tout it as being some kind of culture-jamming thing, but to me it's political foundations don't seem to effect more than a hilarious kick in the ass, and possibly your feather allergy. Well, fun is good too.

This flash mob / pillow fight event was attempted back in December in front of the VAG, but only two people showed up with pillows. I hope more people come this time.

Is that 3 AM or 3 PM?

3pm. I think it's supposed to leave public passersby stupefied. I'll definitely be there.

Even if thier were only 2 people it could be fun.

I was going to try my hand at organizing one of these but then I flaked out because I didn't want to be responsible for it (especially if two people showed up). Anyway, I was really happy I didn't do it because the day of I was having the time of my life.

I've got a few random emails from people about this already to day. These people are in no way bloggers or internet addicted. If I was a betting man, I's wager that this will be big...

It's not IN the art gallery, it's outside, either at the front or back area. i think the Robson side would make for more of a spectacle. i don't think the VAG knows anything about this. Hopefully not anyhow...

I think it would be best to do it on the grass so the feathers that don't fly away will biodegrade. And, anyway, doing it on Robson street seems like like we are trying too hard to get noticed.

Only two people DID show up, but they DID have fun; you can see the pix on Flickr somewhere, just check for Raj Taneja or (because that'll get you about a bajillion and a half hits) Lorenzo Pederzani.

Maybe we can establish an upward trend? Fifteen minutes to go!

I have just got back from the Robson Sq pillow fight and it was awsome. It has been years since I have had a serious discussion obout pillow fight tactics and swing curves. What a blast.

the pillow fight was intense, at least 100 people. furious pillowfighting lots of down flying everywhere.. (down floating around in the carport of hotel van)..
it was actually quite disgusting if you think about it.. breathing inall these old ass pillows and skin and nastyness.. good times nonetheless
