Lee Matasi was tragically taken away from his friends and family, December, 2nd 2005. Since then there has been a continuous effort to raise money to complete the project Lee was working on for years before he passed away. It was his dream; Leeside, a skateboard park/youth park, in a big ol' underground tunnel located at the south east corner of Hastings Park (PNE area). If you are ever in the area go check out the Grafitti inside it, it's F*&%%&(N' amazing.
I spoke with Parks Board Commissioner Alan Degenova today and he is saying construction should be started by this fall. Everything is a go but their is still red tape to cut through in the city engineering department. In the meantime we need to keep on raising money. Soooooo....
The Vancouver Skate Park Coalition is having an fundraiser in Langley at The Twilight Drive-In to raise money for Leeside. Skate board and BMX ramps will be set up to ride, there will be movies, Lee's art, friends of Lee's art and all sorts of fun stuff.

Only advance tickets will go to support Leeside! You can buy them at - Antisocial, RDS, John Henry Bikes, 3 Ride, Ride On, Underworld, Speedie's, Substance. You shouldn't have trouble getting at ticket. But if you do just email Leeane Slade secretary@vspc.ca
Ticket prices - Adult $11-bux Children 5-12 -$6.50, or carload - $25 bux flat rate. Cram five peeps in a car 5 bux cheap, cheap , cheap!
Where - The Twilight Drive In Movie Theatre. 260th Street, Fraser Highway in Langley.

If you can't make it to the V.S.P.C. fundraiser and you still want to contribute, you can buy a shirt from Michelle at Anti Social or give her a donation. Everything helps.
Check out Lee Matasi's memorial site!

Also, the next VSPC meeting is coming up Wednesday, May 3rd at 7pm. Dominos is donating the pizza. Location - Roundhouse Community Centre (Yaletown). Their should be lots of talk about the future of Leeside and other skate parks in Van.

Sounds like a blast. I'm getting knee surgery that day though. I doubt I'll make it. Bummer.

Thanks for the article Sarah. FYI there is going to be another fundraiser going on in a few months for Leeside -- they are going to be selling a custom made coffee roast called "Leeside Tunnel Coffee" with all the proceeds going towards Leeside.

Great Matt, keep us updated. That's an amazing idea considering almost everyone I know is addicted to coffee!
