It's that time of year again! The time when otherwise fashion-conscious people find that rainbow colours and feather boas have become necessary wardrobe items. Yes, peeps, Pride Week is officially here! It's going to be an action-packed week of events, culminating in the Pride Parade and excessive partying happening next Sunday, August 6th.

This year's theme is "Pride & Joy" which makes me gack a bit, like the Van Pride Society has birthed up this adoarable little baby dyke and is cooing all over the place, trying to make you hold it. In fact, the whole line up, while covering an ambitious array of interesting events, has a serious naming problem. "Joy Along the Continuum", the Pride in Art exhibit at the Roundhouse opened Friday night, looks awesome with art by 30+ queer-identified artists, but I just can't tell people what it's called. I keep saying, "the art thing". Similarly, I will be attending Homopalooza at the Plaza of Nations today, which hands down wins "Most Unoriginal Name".

I'm being disparaging, I know. The Pride Events are a lot of things to a lot of people and I have no doubt offended some of them, I just don't understand why a group of people who can coordinate an entire dance routine and costumes for the entire length of the parade route, can't come up with a better name for an art show.

Anyways.

Homopalooza is at the Plaza of Nations today, from 1 PM - 9 PM, featuring all kinds of talent, a beer garden and an erotic tent city. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door, so go check it out. I'll be the one in the back, the one not wearing anything rainbow.

Afterwards, (well maybe not *after* as the Roundhouse is only open until 5 PM today, but sometime this week) head down to see Pride in Art's "Joy Along the Continuum" Pride Week Art exhibit. You have until August 10th to check that out.

That's all I've got for today, I'll be posting regular updates on Pride Week festivities, so watch this space.

Happy Pride!!! Everyone at Beyond Robson, I wish I got my s%*t together for Homopaloza but just didn't find the time.

How was it? Everyone I talked to said that they wanted to go but weren't sure if it would be worth checking out.

homopalooza was alright...I think something like that is needed to fully bookend "pride week" but it was poorly turned out and the line up wasn't great. mostly just lots of peeps milling about, kiosks and ...beer. All the same, it put us in the mood for some pride week partying, so that can't be bad.
