Running Zombies Down In The Streets

Car runs down pedestrians in the street, and the pedestrians and other witnesses contact the police, providing all sorts of information to help identify the driver and the car; such as the description of the silver Honda Accord V6 with BC license plate number EWB 092 and a big green "N" sticker improperly displayed in the rear window.

The police aren't planning to do anything on the grounds that the pedestrians beat the hell out of the car after the first people were hit by the car. There's apparently some outstanding damage to the car, including dents, scratches, and broken glass, but that's some small consolation to those that had a foot run over or who were knocked to the ground.

See, the people in the car claim that they were in fear for their life, just as they appear in the picture above. They maintain that they called 9-1-1 before anyone was hit... so they should have been on the phone in this picture.

I don't know about you, but the three people in the Zombie Slayer V6 do not look like they're afraid; the guy in the passenger seat looks positively happy to be there. Apparently the driver is not being charged for his part in running over minors, or for knocking down pedestrians. Sure, it wasn't a crosswalk. Sure it was a crazy, illegal gathering of youth Up To No Good. The thing is that people carry digital cameras nowadays, and they're not afraid to use them. Who is this guy?

"This driver was just trying to push his way through, eventually he pushed too hard and rammed a few people so hard they rolled up on to his hood. [...] After that, the crowd turned on them, kicking and yelling at the car til it drove off." -- Andrew Ferguson

Yes, the zombies were walking in the street, and no they don't appear to have filed for a license for a parade, that's true, but simply being in the street is not cause for nudging people with your car. Criminal endangerment, anyone? No such luck, in fact, the police officer assigned to the incident had another story entirely.

"He told me that they couldn't ticket that guy because then they'd have to ticket all the zombiewalkers. My arguments that endangering peoples lives by running them over and up on to the hood were met with a firm answer that the people in the cars supposedly called 911 first."

The lesson here, is that if you're going to run someone down, call 9-1-1 as you're hitting the gas.

I'm confused. If the people were already dead, or I guess undead, then what does it matter? I kill zombies all the time. All the time. Ever seen my movie, Sean of the Dead? Thats what I'm talking about.

This picture was taken BEFORE the guy jumped up on the hood and stomped the winshield in. It was after the guy started in on the car that the driver attempted to get out of there and knocked a few people over in doing so. I was with the zombies, and it was a zombie that started it.

i support people who want to do interesting things but let's face it, if you're going to hold up traffic walking down the middle of the street and people are honking for you to get out of the way, then get out of the way..that's what the streets are for..maybe next time try the seawall.
and i agree with the cop..they can't ticket one person when majority were breaking the law.. so quit whining.. no one died and the driver has a hefty bill to foot now.. sounds like he should be seeking damages from the organizers of this event

Obviously it's bad that this guy ran people down, but I think some of the zombies were a little too out of control. I was on a bus on Robson with my friend's 4 year old daughter - the bus had to stop and a bunch of the zombies proceeded to bang on the bus windows, some of them so hard that I was a little afraid the glass would break. There were quite a few of them and this went on for quite a while, some of them also smearing fake blood around.

They did look incredibly good, I have to say, and I sort of enjoyed the spectacle, but my friend's daughter was very scared and I didn't really know what to say to calm her down. I tried to point out that there were kid zombies too, but that made her worse!

It was an interesting idea but maybe a few people got a little too much in character.

I wonder if they'd have reacted the same way if it was an emergency vehicle trying to get through the crowd. Fun is fun but when you're playing in the streets, you're bound to get hit.

You and your friends are dumbasses, plain and simple, J-walking dumbasses

What little I know of the motor vehicle act, and being a non-driver, I'm pretty sure there's no "Go ahead and run people over with your big metal machine" bylaw in the books.

The driver's a moron. Sure, jaywalking zombies. But I don't see any justification for the grinning dumbasses in the photo to actually run people over.

Sorry, stupid driver, you lose.

But this IS vancouver, where you can actually run over and kill someone, and get nary a slap on the wrist.

Fucked. Up.

Typical reaction from people like the ones in that car. And I don't mean their race but people that are so desperate to be trendy and fashionable aren't ever (from experience) the most enlightened or considerate people. I hope internet infamy is the best these losers in the Honda ever experience.

Oh, and actually, the Zombie walk people DID have a permit to occupy the Westbound lanes as a 'parade' route and that these morons in the car turned into the parade route unwittingly so it's not like they were on Robson and then got stuck.

I don't care what the zombies did or didn't do. Take the rest of the event as one thing, and this isolated incident as another: You do not assault a person with a deadly weapon, period.

A motor vehicle, wielded by an immature and unthoughtful person, *is* a deadly weapon and we have to start treating it as such under the law.

If someone comes at you with a sledgehammer, gun, baseball bat, glass bottle, etc. I think you are justified in retaliating and, even if not, no one will think the worse of you if you do get angry and lash back.

But slot in a car for the weapon, wielded by the same grinning idiot, and for some reason, for some people, the argument gets fuzzy. Now the victims are to blame?

for the people attempting to defend the actions of the driver, i was there with my 7 yr old daughter and 7 WEEK old son. we were mere feet away from where the car recklessly drove into the crowd. people blocking a street may be annoying, but it's not endangering anyone's life.

and as for emergency vehicles, we did indeed move when we encontered both a fire truck and an ambulance. (the ambulance drivers were laughing)

assault with a motor vehichle is never excusable.

What do you expect from a guy sporting a poop lip and those sunglasses?

As a person, who witnessed the event and narrowly missed getting hit, I was seriously tee'd off.
I know we were in the street, but come now, it was just good fun. If everyone else found alternative routes, why would he pursist to push through the crowd? The man was looking for trouble, and he got it, it's as simple as that.

That zombie walk was the stupidest thing I've ever seen on Robson. Was there a police escort for this thing? It looked like chaos to me - it's inevitable that something like this would happen.
