Worms on the Case

At some point in the last few years I've become unable to bring myself to throw organic matter into the garbage. I realized that fact a few days after moving into my new third-floor place, when the container of orange peels, spinach stems, egg shells, etc. that was sitting on my counter started to overflow. See, I'd been living in houses with backyards and compost piles for the last few years and now here I was stuck high-and-dry. So what to do? Get involved in vermiculture, of course. It rules, and it's simple... you get a bin, fill it with bedding and worms, toss in your food waste, and a few months later you end up with a heap of soil for your plants, your friend's plants, the garden, whatever. I recommend it to everyone who doesn't have a backyard. If you're interested, the City of Vancouver has a worm composting workshop coming up in the fall. Here's their slideshow to give you an idea of what you're getting into. The city even subsidizes the thing, so they'll set you up with everything you need for the low cost of $25. For more info give them a call at 604-436-6901.
If everyone did this, the world would be a better place.

I got one of these on my balcony, and it rocks. Them wormies chow down.
I'm pretty sure that the worm compost workshops are ongoing periodically, so people should chk the website or call the joint or something.
