I received an email about a missing, pregnant, teacher named Manjit about a week ago. I literally could not believe it. She had gone missing after a pre natal yoga class. When I read about it in the papers the next day It gave me a creepy feeling. I mean what pregnant woman takes off without letting people know?

A few days later, she was found near a busy container terminal in Delta just south of Vancouver dead, and badly burned. It is hard not to try and imagine what happened to her. I could speculate but I won't. I can hardly think of anything more terrible being a mother myself. Sadly, Manjit also left a little girl behind around my son's age. I wonder how they will tell her. I don't think kids that age can really grasp the concept of death. And they shouldn't. Poor thing.

According to newspapers, her funeral service is tentatively scheduled for Riverside Funeral Centre in Delta on Saturday, November 4th.

I have been told by somebody that the funeral service is at Five Rivers Funeral Home, in Delta on River Road, at 12:30pm on Saturday, November 4th, and the religious service for the completion of the sehaj paath (continuous prayers) is taking place after the funeral service at Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar (on 85 Ave at 128 Street) in Surrey.

My heart goes out to Manjit's family, her little girl and her husband.

Is the funeral just for family/freinds or the public as well?

The funeral and the prayer service are both public, open to all. Please attend and show your support.

The third in a series of murders/attempts by Indo-Canadian husbands in the Vancouver area in the past few months? And with the brother-in-law having been kicked out of the house just previous - the brother with a history of stalking and burning the residence of a former female associate....

I wonder who will be charged... perhaps both?

I read your site BC SIKH YOUTH it was chilling to see another young mother has been murdered from the Sikh comunity. It must be very sad and confusing for you all. I hope they let the family members come to care for her baby.

This is completely shocking and very difficult for members of our community. Especially our youth - they feel betrayed but the patriarchal, sexist culture which is in direct contrast to the teachings of our faith. It is time for our community to take a serious look in the mirror, and see what we are doing to ourselves, and how we can change this epidemic of violence against women.

Well Said BCSY. It is horrible what is going on within your community. So many have such little regard for both life and women. It's time for the women to stand up, and for the community to support them. The women need to learn to have a voice, two feet to stand on and some independence. They need the people of their community to support them on these issues!!

Radio stations have been sporting calls from numerous battered women, hopefully things do change.

If you have an abusive husband that hits you, leave him. It doesn't matter what people think not even your own family . It will be better for you and your children if you have children. There are shelters here in Vancouver that are here to protect you. Abuse includes name calling, pushing, controling and any kind of hitting. It happens in many comunities it is ilegal and should not be tolerated.

We should support billC484. When a mother and her child has been murdered I beleive the baby is a person too and the person who killed them both should be charged with a double murder.

I totally agree with Dean Clark. The muderer must be held accountable for the death of the woman and her baby in her womb.
