Boxing Week is Great for Geeks
Although I've been avoiding Boxing Week sales in recent years, as I've found that retailers hype major deals on things like a fugly XXXL mock-neck sweater that nobody wanted in the first place, just to get people through the door and looking at their new stock, I have found that there are good deals to be had on certain items.
Electronics, for example, are designed to be replaced within a year so retailers are swift to get them off the shelves to make room for the new. So when you look at things like a new photo printer for less than $100, 2 GB memory card for under $30, and 22" widescreen monitor for $299 you can't help but open up the coffers for some new gear. You can get into the digital SLR market with a Canon Rebel for $730! Jesus Christ! (Happy Belated Birthday btw)
Now, if you're like me, and you despise malls, parking lots, lineups, other shoppers, and old people on scooters, you'll want to do your research beforehand to minimize your time amongst the hordes. The best place to start is RedFlagDeals.com, a Canadian repository for bargain hunting info. Here you'll find coupons, deals, promos, and Boxing Week flyers for major Canadian retailers. For instance, this is where I found out about the 22" Dell monitor for $299, and they also have flyers for Best Buy and Futureshop that won't be distributed till tomorrow. So get on it and snatch up that camera before it's replaced with something that has enough megapixels to actually make a difference.
Please be sure to sell or recycle your old electronics. E-waste is a big problem.
UPDATE: Boxing Week is great for sneakerphiles, too. Adidas' online store has discounted everything on its site, including the Originals collection. Sale ends today.
