Yet another of them festivals that I've never heard about before. Have these things always been around and I just wasn't tuned in? 'Cause i surfed the site and realized that this Winter Solstice Lantern Festival thing looks kinda, like, big. There's probably a lot of cross over from people who are into the whole Illuminares Lantern Festival et al, which is a good thing. There's separate festivals taking place in Chinatown/Strathcona, Commercial Drive area, West Van, Granville Island, and even Yaletown. Each 'hood has their own events, performances and entertainment.

So this Friday the scoop is that people will be parading around their purdy lanterns, while checking out other people's purdy lanterns across the semi-polluted waters of False Creek. For a peek at what the whole thing is like check out the video.

Friday afternoon there's a several last minute lantern-making workshops if you're not satisfied to stick a tea candle into a tin can with holes poked in it.
