Who's Streets? Our Streets!

I guess this is old hat to anyone who uses Google Earth, but the lovely map program has little video clips linked to various noteworthy locales. You may not have realized this, but Vancouver has three streets worth mentioning. No less, no more!

And thanks to BR we have, for your viewing pleasure:

Main Street! The quote unquote Cool part of town. (I say "Cool" to bug the Main Street hipsters).

Commercial Drive! Hippie central, as far as our urban confines can accommodate.

and Davie! It's not just gay-o-rama, it's for everybody. This vid conspicuously neglects to mention that Davie is the place where all walks of life fit in. Suits, queens, squeegee kids, it's all good.

The vids are courtesy of TurnHere, so don't complain to me if you happen to feel that Commercial isn't accurately represented. (10 yrs in this city, and I've never seen that Vespa gang before either...)

And for sure, they could have done worse: Robson or Gastown, anyone? Also who knows, maybe a third vid is in the works. Granville? East Hastings? Bets, anyone?

As a gay man, as you suggested, they really should have mentioned that Davie Street is for everyone. Typical.
I'd be curious to know who was really behind that shoot.

the vespa gang really does exist. go get a coffee at continental saturday AM and you will see them.

personally, i am starting to love gastown again. it is finally getting some interesting places and even tho there are still way too many rug shops and tourists, I am loving hanging out there lately.

It seems like anyone can contact Turn Here and offer to make a video about their neighbourhood. Those are friends of mine that did the Main Street and Commercial Drive bits. Hey Degan, why don't you get camera and do one about Gastown?

that Davie clip is hilarious. As a member of the hood, I certainly am all for promoting the village, but c'mon...."Some of the best nightclubs in North America" ....?? are you kidding me with that statement? Celebrities and Numbers ????

ahhhhhahahahahahaha

Yeah, i too thought that statement was pretty ridiculous. On one hand, Celebrities has definitely hosted some of this cities best nights, but i'm pretty sure Numbers ain't all that: you don't need to actually cross the threshold to realize it's not white hot.

Also i was pretty impressed that the Main st vid was so current that it featured Antisocial's skate ramp.

Thats the old ramp, from last summer.
