A Very Buffy Hallowe'en

tarawillow.jpgHi. My name's Simon, and I'm a Buffyholic. I would like to add that I do not believe this to be a problem. Back when the show was still on the air I would sit with all the girls in the staff room at lunch on Wednesdays and discuss the previous nights episode, while all the guys would sit around and snicker at me. I really didn't care all that much, I was finally at the girl's table after all (screw you high school), and anyway, a bunch of these guys would come up to me on the sly with "do you really watch that Buffy show?" "Yeah, yeah I do." "Me too! It's awesome, I just didn't know it's okay to talk about it..." I'll go you one better, now it's okay to sing about it...

Outside of the fact that it's hot women kicking vampire ass - reason enough to watch, I'd say - Buffy was also the creation of one of the boob tube's greatest writers, Joss Whedon, whose jewel in his favourite series' crown is an entirely musical episode titled Once More With Feeling, the enormous popularity of which has made it the new Rocky Horror Picture Show, with public sing-along screenings a regular event at theatres all over the continent. Pacific Cinematheque and Happy Bats Cinema is hosting two of these parties here this month, on Saturday, October 27 at 1pm, and Tuesday, October 30, at 8pm. And yes, dressing up is encouraged, with costume prizes, door prizes, and all. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: those who like it, like it a lot. And we're not ashamed. A little nerdy maybe, but not ashamed.
