I know that as soon as I post this, Sean is going to say that Budgies Burrito is better, and I'm not going to argue with that! I've been hearing about the Red Burrito, newly opened on the corner of Commercial Drive and First Ave. (1700 Commercial Drive), for quite a while now, but up until now the time hasn't been quite right enough to check it out.
Anyways, the idea is simple, you get a beef, chicken, shrimp, or veggie burrito or taco. It comes with spiced beans and rice and then 4 choices of salsa: regular, red tomatillo, green tomatillo or something else that I don't remember...probably extra spicy. Then there is also an assortment of veggies, sauces and cheese you can choose from. Guacamole is extra but worth it.
It was OK. The rice and bean combo is a nice touch, and everything was fresh and flavourful. There was too much cilantro, but as that was an "option" I can only blame myself, and it was kind of cold by the time I got it home (also my fault). But it was also a bit drippy, and $4.95 for a relatively huge veggie burrito is pretty good value, but it only goes up from there for the meat varieties. I'm sure I'll be back - the location, price and convenience make it worthwhile - but it will also be because I'm in the area and hungry. This address has had a lot of turnover in the last couple of years, and I think Red Burrito will be good there, but I also think I'm going to be trying Budgies out pretty soon...

Wow, first I see this on six04:

and now on Beyond Robson. Is there a conspiracy here, or is it really that good?
Only one way to find out....

I had a terrible experience at Red Burrito: Too many raw onions!

Budgies is better
It's not surprising that the southerners that work at Red Burrito give too much raw onions for your Northern stomach, let them know.
Also Red B. has this weird thing, for root beer they charge you the price on their menu for non-alcoholized beer, $2.75. Crazy-assed only place in the world sh-t, very creative idea, but really only works once, a tourist zone idea I guess, but on Commercial Drive, a lttle ominous. And probably illegal, because it's still pop. Scam

oh that's weird! do they actually have non-alcoholized beer, or are they just confused? the first time I went to France I had an interesting experience trying to order rootbeer at a movie theatre and ending up with real beer!
