On Saturday, July 7, I know a lot of weddings will be taking place. There's a superstition that 07 07 07 is a lucky day. For the rest of us singletons, our luck comes in the form of the Global Habitat Festival. While those wedding party suckers will be listening to some makeshift band crooning "Everlasting Love", Robson Square will be filled with music lovers enjoying local talent such as Damsel Fly, This Dance Dance Revolution Will Not Be Televised, and DJ NAFA.
However, it will be more than music going on at the Square.
The purpose of the Global Habitat Festival is to coincide with the worldwide "Live Earth" concerts. This Saturday, major cities such as New York, Tokyo, and London will host concerts featuring big acts like Xzibit, Yusuf, Smashing Pumpkins, Alicia Keys, and more. Lucky bastards. I'm assuming that the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" sparked Live Earth, being that Al Gore is one of the producers, and the main message is "Stop Climate Change".
Vancouver's Festival will have live coverage of Live Earth concerts, so we won't be completely deprived. In addition, there will be art and an eco-village on-site. If you want to help out, Better Environmentally Sound Transportation is seeking volunteer bicycle valets.
This event is free, so hope you can come out and party with the rest of the world!
