Ray LaMontagne

Ray LaMontagne is set to play the Vogue on November 8, so folk-lovers had better prepare to have their hearts pierced with soulful musicality.

LaMontagne has been a favourite artist (and influence) of mine since I heard the opening chords of his debut album. 2006 saw the release of "Till The Sun Turns Black", further exposing an old soul drenched in emotion.

If you have a listen to LaMontagne's most recent,"Gossip in the Grain", you'll find that the man in the beard is exploring a new tone. While his musicality remains indisputable, it seems he has lightened up a bit (in the best sense of the phrase), and is creating work that is both adventurous and fun. More after the jump....

When I saw LaMontagne in '06, he performed on a dimly lit stage at the Centre of Performing Arts. It was a sublime experience where the artist's quiet demeanor reflected the spirit of his music exactly. There was no frills and very little banter, but the honesty in the songs kept the crowd entranced.

Now that LaMontagne is equipped with a more expansive emotional repetoir, I am intrigued to find out how "Gossip in the Grain" will effect the tour's temperament. No matter the mood that strikes him, Ray LaMontagne is bound to give a show to remember.

Ray LaMontagne plays at the Vogue Theatre on November 8th, 2008.
Leona Naess will open.
Tickets at Live Nation.

Ray's music has a special place in my heart (first song my husband played for me when we were dating, the first song at our wedding etc.) *sigh*
