Preloved but Brand New
Last night, Preloved held their first fashion show in Vancouver since opening its doors on Granville Street in April of this year. The invite only show was held at Ginger 62, and was the first time the line has been unveiled. The show kicked off promptly at 9:30 to a crowd of fashion industry insiders and presented a unique array of vintage inspired looks. Modern and simple, with distinct 80's inspired themes, the line included skinny jeans, leggings and layers, but also feminine dresses with a 70's vibe. The concept behind the entire Preloved collection is making what's old new again, turning old t-shirts and sweaters people have decided to give away into unique couture designs that would stand up against any major label.
I remember the first time I saw a Preloved sweater thinking how could anyone spend $100 for something cut and pasted from old Value Village leftovers? Basically...it was a ripoff. But the line has grown and developed into a collection like no other. The quality has improved, and the concepts behind the designs appear to be expanding. New materials are appearing where you wouldn't expect and creating a look catering to women wanting to be stylish yet different from the crowd. The men's line was somewhat laughable with very low cut v-neck sweaters and tight leggings with blazers, but I suppose there is a market for everything. It was refreshing to see a line that stands out from typical mall clothing and provides high fashion for a comparatively reasonable price.

Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat fame did an exclusive DJ set for the evening.

Preloved is having a 20% off sale this weekend only and is located at 1015 Granville Street.
