A Great Cut for Curls @ Derek London

If you're a curly-haired fashionista like me, you'll be well aware of the importance of a good haircut. And a good haircut is near-impossible to get without first finding a hairstylist who knows how to cut curly hair.

I've been on the search for a great stylist for many years, and have suffered some very "interesting" haircuts in the process. So when two of my friends came back from the salon with beautifully sculpted curls, I just had to know who cut their hair!

The answer? Karyn Rudance, master curl stylist at Derek London Haute Coiffure. When I walked into the salon yesterday and saw Karyn's head of goregeous red curls, I knew I had come to the right place - and the right person. After a quick consultation and a wash, she began to cut the craziness that is my hair. With the eye of a master sculptor, she paid great attention to each individual curl, cutting it according to the variations in texture and tightness. No two curls on my head are the same, and she made each one look amazing. I walked out with the best haircut of my life, and got at least three or four compliments on it as I went about my day.

A haircut by Karyn will set you back about $50 plus tax and tip, which is pretty reasonable for a good haircut in Vancouver. To book an appointment, please call Derek London at 604.684.5905 or stop by the salon, located at 1075 Mainland St. in Yaletown. Karyn runs a referral system for her clients - for every person you refer to her, you get 15% off your next appointment. If you send four people her way, you get your next cut for free! So if you go, make sure you tell her that Shallom sent you.

Good hair dressers are very hard to find. I've had one bad cut after another. Last week while visiting the UK I had my hair cut in Brighton, I'm so pleased with the result. The standard is much higher there.

Melissa at Caramel is also very good for curly hair. She's done wonders for me, and I have hair that shrinks to about half its length from straight to curly.

My hair shrinks up like crazy too... When I straighten it (which is a very rare event that takes over 2 hours to do properly) I end up with at least an extra 4 inches of hair!
