Portobello West Market - Spring Opening

Portobello West Market Clothes Nothing says Spring like getting mauled by hordes of fashion-crazy women. I had the luxury (perhaps courage?) to take part in the Spring opening of the Portobello West Market last Sunday and while it was packed, true fashion was few and far between.

That wasn't to say there weren't clothes there, but most items fit the casual, laid-back style that the west-coast has unfortunately become attached to with a few decent pieces popping out from time to time. And doubly unfortunate for me, save for a few hat stands there was an almost complete absence of male fashion (note to designers and girlfriends alike!).

That isn't to say that it was all a bust, however, as my female companion was all too eager to point out the exquisite - and notably abundant - jewelry on display at many of the booths. These pieces ranged from beautiful silver and gold chains to moth-wings that had been encapsulated in square, flat pendants - dead moths are definitely up my alley.

As with most markets of this variety, the roster changes every time you go (they occur on the last Sunday of every month), so here's hoping that as the season progresses we can have a little more high-end pieces to check out and a little less casual fare.

If you're interested in heading over, it's at the Rocky Mountaineer Station (1755 Cottrell Street), which is right near Home Depot on Terminal. Admission is $2 for the public (children 12 and under get in free) from 12pm to 6pm.
