Celluloid Social Club: Indie Film Screenings

If cutting edge indie films are your schtick, then you'll feel right at home at Celluloid Social Club, a venue where filmmakers can screen their projects and follow up with a Q&A with the audience and gain valuable feedback.

Past guests of the CSC include Robin Williams (no introduction), Carl Bessai (director, Severed, Unnatural & Accidental), Tammy Gillis (actress, White Noise II, The L Word), Moses Znaimer (Executive Producer, Founder and President of CityTV Toronto, head of MuchMusic and MusiquePlus), and Fiona Forbes & Michael Eckford of Urban Rush - with 10 years of monthly screenings safely under their belt, the organizers of CSC have got this event on lockdown.

Seating is cabaret-style and you're free to drink your adult beverages throughout the screenings - hey, how often do you wish you could sip a beer or two when you're at the big theaters. And at the Celluloid Social Club, you won't walk out complaining about what a hatch-job the director did on that remake and demanding to the manager that you want your $12.50 back, thankyouverymuch.

This is a great opportunity to see wicked awesome films among a wicked awesome crowd - and plus you often get to talk with the filmmakers (or someone somehow involved in the making of the film) directly and pummel them with questions about how it's done.

Here's a super quick rundown of what's screening this month on Wednesday, May 30th:

NOSTALGIA BOY directed by Michael Meinhardt, 18 min., Drama / Fantasy, 2007 - A young man adrift in a dream world of nostalgia confronts his arch nemesis in order to save a life and ultimately creates a new world out of what he loves most - his past.

LOVE SEAT written, produced and directed by Kris Elgstrand, 8 min, comedy, 2006.

WILL OF THE WISP written, directed & produced by Jody Thompson, 10 min, surrealist experimental thriller, 2007 - A young woman comes to terms with her past through a series of haunting flashbacks. Inspired by Surrealism and Poststructuralist Feminist Theory ... a sensual and lyrical visual poem.

SPARKLE LITE MOTEL, directed by Cory Kinney, 15:30 min, Comedy/Horror, 2007 - The Sparkle Lite Motel is the story of a newlywed couple who check into a seedy motel expecting a night of wedded bliss. They soon learn that their honeymoon suite has other plans for them.

THE WORLD IS CALLING directed by Adrian Griffiths.

TIME BREAKS DOWN featuring Bend Sinister, directed by Michael Lewis, produced by Ken Frith, music video.

Most of the selections for the May edition of CSC are also up for Leo Awards - more on that awards ceremony celebrating the best of BC film and TV coming soon.

Fiona Forbes & Michael Eckford.
Those two are a pathetic joke.
