I Love Animals! I Hate People?

I tried vegetarianism when I was 18. Living in a meat-heavy Filipino household, it lasted three months. The wonderful savoury smells of beef stewing in rich sauce... mmmm!!
Now, I straddle a middle line. I'm what you might call "bivegetarian": sometimes I eat meat. Although I love animals, don't wear fur, and try to only consume creatures raised in humane conditions, there are some who feel I don't try hard enough.
PETA, amongst other groups, has been known to use strong methods to stop the slaughter of animals for our fashion and diet wants. In the news we see footage of them protesting naked, harassing passersby, vandalizing property, etc. Your Mommy Kills Animals is a documentary exploring the muddled world of animal protection. We see interviews with animal rights activists, protection officers, celebrities, and consumers. There is footage from daring activist crimes, and we hear from the opposition who believe that animal rights organizations fight at the expense of people's welfare. Director Curt Johnson was inspired to produce this documentary after noting that after 9/11, the FBI identified animal rights activists as the number one domestic threat in the U.S.
Your Mommy Kills Animals screens at the VanCity Theatre from August 17-21. It is available as a double bill with another documentary called Zoo, but the subject matter of that film is bestiality. I love animals, but I don't love animals.
