Photo Feature 30 March 2007

Good morning Vancouver and welcome back to the Friday Photo Feature, where we take a moment to shine the shiny spotlight of fame and glory on the best and brightest photos and photographers in our fair city (and who submit to the Beyond Robson flickr group).

How we all doing today? Personally, I’m not running on all cylinders today. I think I caught that cold/flu thing that’s going around. It sucks, but I’m not going to let it stop me.

So let’s get on to the photos. Today’s theme: night.

Photo Feature

  1. Lions Gate Bridge from Stanley Park, Vancouver - British Columbia by KK+
  2. What is that thing? by bdewan
  3. Gentle Into these Good Lights by k3nt
  4. A.M. by Bhlubarber

Today we start with a brilliant shot of the Lions Gate from local world famous photographer Kris Krug. In all seriousness, one of the best photos of the LGB that I’ve ever seen. The lighting and reflections and silhouetted rocks work near perfectly.

Next up we have a shot of one of the many sculptures that practically litter our city (in the good way) against the downtown skyline. bdewan has composed this shit exceptionally well, and exposed it the same.

Thirdly, k3nt brings us the perfect illuminated foggy bridge shot. I thought I had already featured this one actually, as I fell in love with it the first time I saw it weeks ago, but I never did. I have no idea why. Maybe I was subconsciously waiting for a theme like this one. Or maybe I’m just forgetful. Either way? It’s a great photo.

We close out today with a shot of the Mt. Pleasant clock from Bhlubarber. The lighting and contrast in this photo make it stand out from the crowd, the composition makes it great.

As per usual I’m sending each of these photographers a love note to let them know that their 15 minutes is now ticking away, but for now please join me in lauding and congratulating them.

Hey! Thanks for the feature. I had a job for a while that required me to get up and be at work for 6am on weekends. It was tough. But, I often had some down time in between gigs, driving around the lower mainland with the camera in my bag. However, when the fog rolled in it was well worth being up. The city was eerie and lonely at that hour - the only people you see are just coming home, so it was with a sense of melancholy most of my fog pics were made. Nice work to the others too!

Thanks for featuring my photo! Can someone please tell me what the hell that thing is? I know it's a scuplture and I know I'm being literal about wanting to know what it is, but what the hell is it?

@bdewan - apparently it's a gate to the northwest passage, although I think it looks kind of like PI, myself.

thanks for doing the night theme and choosing my photo. night is when the traffic settles down, the pedestrians are at home watching tv. the urban chaos calms. it's a time when architecture comes alive. i'm in love with the night.

It looks like someone busted the lower half off a pigeon-toed robot...or a gate to the Northwest passage.
