Photo Feature 26 June 2007: Beach!

Good morning dear readers and welcome to yet another episode of your photo feature, the semi-weekly column where we point the shiny spotlight of fame and glory at some of the best and brightest photos and photographers in our fair city.

Interested in having the shiny spotlight shined your way? All you have to do is join, and start submitting to, the Beyond Robson Flickr group and then play a little game I like to call "the waiting game."

Today we have a theme for our photos, and that theme is "the beach."

On the left today is Lifeguards huddle by Ruth and Dave. This photo is chosen for a couple of reasons, first and foremost i like the composition with the boat in the foreground and the lifeguards in the background, as well as the depth of field and tone. Secondly, it highlights how poor the weather has been lately. Usually by my birthday (last weekend) the beach is, or should be, swarming with people but this one is all but empty. How annoying.

On the right is come together by marcosross. This one is chosen almost entirely for its contrast to the left hand photo. A sunny day at English Bay and the place is packed! And because it was taken with a LensBaby it has a sort of "fuzzy memory" quality to it, which is appropriate because the sun has become somewhat of a fuzzy memory lately. What up with that?

Well, that's it for today. Looks like the sun might stay out today so try and get out there and enjoy it. As per usual I'm sending a note to the photographers to let them know they've been featured, but for now let's all applaud their fine work!
